Michael Hutchence

Michael Kelland John Hutchence (22 January 1960 – 22 November 1997) was an Australian musician and actor, he was the founding lead singer-songwriter of rock band INXS from 1977 to his death. Hutchence was a member of briefly existing pop rock group Max Q and recorded solo material which was released posthumously.

He acted in feature films, including Dogs in Space (1986) and Frankenstein Unbound (1990). According to rock music historian, Ian McFarlane, "Hutchence was the archetypal rock showman. He exuded an overtly sexual, macho cool with his flowing locks, and lithe and exuberant stage movements".
Hutchence won the 'Best International Artist' at the 1991 BRIT Awards with INXS winning the related group award.

Ginsberg, Allen (3 June 1926-6 Apr. 1997), poet, was born in Newark, New Jersey, the younger son of Louis Ginsberg, a high school English teacher and poet, and Naomi Levy Ginsberg. Ginsberg grew up with his older brother Eugene in a household shadowed by his mother's mental illness; she suffered from recurrent epileptic seizures and paranoia. An active member of the Communist Party-USA, Naomi Ginsberg took her sons to meetings of the radical left dedicated to the cause of international Communism during the Great Depression of the 1930s.

In the summer of 1948, in his senior year at Columbia, Ginsberg had dedicated himself to becoming a poet after hearing in a vision the voice of William Blake reciting the poem "Ah Sunflower."He felt that the poet's duty was to bring a visionary consciousness of reality to his readers. He was dissatisfied with the poetry he was writing at this time, traditional work modeled on English poets like Sir Thomas Wyatt or Andrew Marvell whom he had studied at Columbia.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Syd Barrett (6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006), born Roger Keith Barrett, was an English singer/songwriter, guitarist and painter. He is most remembered as a founding member of psychedelic/progressive rock band Pink Floyd, providing major musical and stylistic direction in their early work, although he left the group in 1968 amidst speculations of mental illness exacerbated by heavy drug use.

Barrett was active as a rock musician for about seven years, recording two albums with Pink Floyd and two solo albums before going into self-imposed seclusion lasting more than thirty years. His post rock-band life was as an artist and a keen gardener, ending with his death in 2006. A number of biographies have been written about him since the 1980s and Pink Floyd wrote and recorded a song about him after he left, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on the 1975 album Wish You Were Here.

Soundgarden is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by lead singer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt Cameron became the band's permanent drummer in 1986 while bassist Ben Shepherd became a permanent replacement for Yamamoto in 1990.Soundgarden was one of the seminal bands in the creation of grunge, a style of alternative rock that developed in Seattle, and was one of a number of grunge bands signed to the record label Sub Pop.

Soundgarden was the first grunge band to sign to a major label (A&M Records, in 1988), though the band did not achieve commercial success until they popularized "grunge" in the early 1990s with Seattle contemporaries Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.Soundgarden achieved its biggest success with the 1994 album Superunknown, which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and yielded the Grammy Award-winning singles "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman".

In 1997, the band broke up due to internal strife over its creative direction. On January 1, 2010, Cornell alluded to a Soundgarden reunion. On April 5, 2010, it was announced that Soundgarden would play Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 6–8, 2010. A secret reunion concert under the name "Nudedragons" was held at the Showbox at the Market in Seattle on April 16, 2010. It was Soundgarden's first show since 1997.

The Smashing Pumpkins is an American band that formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1988. Formed by Billy Corgan (vocals, guitar) and James Iha (guitar, backing vocals), the band has included D'arcy Wretzky (bass guitar, backing vocals), Jimmy Chamberlin (drums, percussion), and Melissa Auf der Maur (bass guitar) amongst its membership.

Less overtly sharing the punk rock roots of many of their alt-rock contemporaries, the Pumpkins have a diverse, densely layered, and guitar-heavy sound, containing elements of gothic rock, heavy metal, dream pop, psychedelic rock, arena rock, shoegazer-style production and, in later recordings, electronica. Front man Billy Corgan is the group's primary songwriter—his grand musical ambitions and cathartic lyrics have shaped the band's albums and songs, which have been described as "anguished, bruised reports from Billy Corgan's nightmare-land"

You may recognize Veronica as the face of our current collection. We caught up with her recently to see what she has been up to and interview her.

A Brief History of yourself:
Although born in Australia, I spent four years of my young life growin up in the alpine region of France. Ever since, I have had a passion for foreign language and culture. I grew up on the Sunshine Coast, but moved to Brisbane to begin University. It was then that I began modelling and had the pleasure of meeting Ben Ringuet and his amazing designs.

Who do you be in awe of?
I am in awe of Charlotte Gainsbourg. She is unique, seemingly unphased by what is expected of her as a celebrity and style-icon. She moves, dresses and creates in a way that seems to come directly from her soul, and which reflects her intriguing hybrid anglo-francaise heritage. She is a quietly powerful woman who walks the line between cultures, I guess that's an ideal of mine.

When and how did you get in modeling?
The body as a form of creative medium has always fascinated me; I was always involved in drama and dance growing up. At a certain age, many acquaintances and strangers began suggesting I pursue modelling. I began working in the industry with local designers and photographers. Modelling has gradually developed into a passion of mine, it makes me feel transformed and elevated.

Do you have any other interests than modeling?
Certainly. I adore foreign language and culture, and have studied Italian, French and Japanese. I hope to travel abroad to immerse myself in the subtleties of other cultures before they are lost entirely. I also love music, and compose my own songs on piano and guitar.

If you could be anywhere on this earth where would it be and what would you be wearing?
I would be walking the hilly tuscan vinyards, wearing a straw hat, a flowing white dress (a la Benjamin Ringuet) and leather sandals.

What is your favourite thing about Benjamin Ringuet?
Benjamin, as a designer, has a rare talent for bringing multiple aspects of a concept and harmonising them in his designs. His collection marries structured pleats with flowing chiffon, strict Edwardian style with feminine whimsy, strength with vulnerability. To me, Benjamin Ringuet harnesses weighty conceptual elements and creates garments that are both inspired by and transcendental of humanity.

How do you burn salvation?
You transform your perception of judgment.

Cameron Gullo who you might recognize from Benjamin Ringuet's Redemption Look book, recently gave us his views on life, music and salvation:

Give me a brief history of yourself and your talent.
I am the youngest of five kids in an Italian family full of high achievers. I was never the sporty type, things just didn't work out for me in that arena, however i picked up a guitar when i was 12, and the light shone for the first time. while all the kids in the class were talking about their father's commodore, i was talking about Jimi Hendrix and Madonna. I was involved with music in all my high school time. I am now in my final year of a marketing degree and am moving to London at the end of the year to make music there.

You look like a mixture between Michael Hutchence, Benjamin Ringuet and Jim Morrision.. how do you achieve this look?
Never got a southern cross tattoo or a unit shirt. That's about it.

How did you get into modelling?
Some things don't need to be told!

What interests do you have?

I love to read, I love my family, I enjoy music, I like to talk and i think people are beautiful.

How do you taste salvation?
I believe the most important thing in life is others. If common compassion stretched to the least in society, a better place this world would be. Salvation comes from compassion.

What was your first impression of Benjamin Ringuet?
It felt like I'd stepped into a Mexican hair salon at an hour far too early for me, but an hour far to late for him. A good time it was!

Drobe Spring/Summer Launch 2010

Thursday night the Benjamin Ringuet entourage headed into one of our favourite Brisbane stores, Drobe, for a VIP event launching the Spring/Summer ranges from labels including our own. Brisbane fashion lovers packed the space to shop, drink some wine and listen to the tunes of local band The Secret Whisper. Owner of Drobe, Lydia (pictured below), was also dressed by us on the night wearing the black Angelic Dress.

Eagles of Death Metal is an American garage rock band from Palm Desert, California, formed in 1998 by Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. Despite the name, Eagles of Death Metal are not a death metal band. Hughes said that a friend was trying to introduce Josh Homme to the death metal genre. When he played a song by the Polish band Vader and made a claim that the song was death metal, Homme called them "The Eagles of Death Metal". After hearing this phrase, he wondered what a cross between the Eagles and a death metal band would sound like. In a 2003 interview Homme described the sound of the band as a combination of "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals." Jesse Hughes is known and loved by fans for his enthusiastic and charismatic interaction with audiences at live performances.

Earlier this month, Benjamin Ringuet took part in a high end fashion runway event that show-cased designs from some of Australia’s top fashion labels such as Lisa Ho, Nicola Finetti & Romance was Born + many more. Only a small handful of new/up and coming labels were personally chosen to provide a garment to show-case on the runway alongside some of the best.

Set in the chic surrounding of the National Wine Centre, South Australia, Designers were asked to create a black garment in the theme of Noir to be showcased at what proved to be a fashion spectacular. From lingerie and swimwear to avant-garde pieces, the show was a stand-out within the Australian Fashion scene!

Them Crooked Vultures is a rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles in 2009 by John Paul Jones, Dave Grohl and Josh Homme. The group also includes guitarist Alain Johannes during live performances. The band began recording in July 2009, and performed their first gig on August 9, 2009 in Chicago, followed by a European debut on August 19. On October 1 the group embarked on a worldwide tour titled Deserve the Future with dates going into 2010. The band's first single "New Fang" was released in October 2009, followed by the group's self-titled debut album the following month, debuting at number 12 on the Billboard 200.

The Mars Volta is an American progressive rock band from El Pasi, Texas, formed in 2001 and currently based out of Mexico. Founded by guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, the band incorporates various influences including progressive rock, krautrock, jazz fusion, hard rock and Latin American music into their unique sound. They are known for their energetic and improvisational live shows, as well as their concept based studio albums. In 2009, the band won a Grammy in the "Best Hard Rock performance" catergory for the song "Wax Simulacra". They were named "Best Prog-Rock Band" or 2008 by Rolling Stones magazine. We think they are worth the accolades.

Rebecca is known for her ability to capture dark romantic moments withing her photography and is currently creating a stir throughout Brisbane's art scene. We have been invited to join the line up for Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival 2010 hosted by Southbank. We'll be showcasing in the Queensland Government New Generation show alongside other talented upcoming designers. Having been handpicked is definitely a privledge and it also meants that the up coming months are going to get crazy in the lead up to the festival. MBFF will run from 7-13 August; tickets will be available soon but until then so keep an eye out on the blog for all the latest news, we'll be sure to keep you posted.
